What stays editable

The work is kept as what you did, so a great deal stays editable that is usually lost the moment you let go of the mouse.

Shapes

A rectangle drawn an hour ago still has its size, corners and handles.

Text

A piece of text is words, a place and a size, so a typo is retyped, not erased.

Colours

A colour painted through a palette slot follows the slot, on every frame.

Transforms

Rotation, scale and offset are numbers. Set them to zero and the original returns exactly.

A look inside

What is in it

Draw

  • Pencil, spray, eraser, fill, eyedropper, contour fill, rectangle, ellipse, line, curves and polygons, text, lasso and magic wand, with pen-tablet pressure.
  • Pixel-perfect lines, symmetry, tiled mode and tile grids, snap to grid, guides and slices.
  • Shapes stay editable. Dither patterns follow your palette. Rotate at any angle in pixel-art style, without the mush.

Layers and palettes

  • Layers with blend modes, opacity, groups and clipping.
  • Palettes in named slots, so one colour change repaints everywhere it was used. Ramps, presets, several palettes per file, and GPL, JASC, hex and ACT files in and out.

Animate

  • Frames, named cycles with loop and ping-pong modes, linked cels, onion skin, tweens and playback at any speed.
  • A timeline that opens over the canvas when you want it and tucks away when you do not.
  • Cutout puppets: parts, joints and sockets, posed by hand and captured to a frame.

In and out

  • Opens .lsprite, PNG, GIF, JPEG, BMP and Aseprite files as editable work.
  • Exports PNG at 1x to 16x (indexed too), animated GIF, APNG and WebP, and sprite sheets with a JSON description game engines read.
  • Reference images stay with the file.

Made to live in

  • Nine themes, your own colour for every part of the interface, interface size and density up to 150%.
  • Panels dock, tab, float and save as layouts. Fully rebindable keys and command search.
  • Automatic recovery copies, so a crash does not cost you your work.

Open source, and where it comes from

Sprit's'fast is open source under the Apache License 2.0 and is built on the LiveSprite engine, which is source-available under the Business Source License 1.1.

It has no network code: a test keeps it true. The privacy policy is short because there is nothing to say.

Not affiliated with Aseprite or its makers; it reads their files so your work is not locked in.
